Alison - that is a cruel, unusual and very disturbing abuse/use of someone's open blogspot!! Now I have ear worms and they are not nice - I think I'll have to take a sick day - I can get a doctor's note for that you know!
And don't chastise me for leaving it open...I walk away for a second and look what happens...blah blah blah...(can you me hear me nattering on at you?? is it causing ear worms yet?)

The Quiz

Well - the quiz has arrived and I'm stuck. I've even checked the web for answers and am learning so much 'stuff' about the 'things' that I can't think!!
I did find this site:

and added it as a feed to my blog spot.
It lists out in a table the differences between blogs and web pages...perhaps mulling that over will me answer the very difficult #7 question!

I believe I have successfully completed all the 23 Things and quite enjoyed them...I think the most useful "Thing" (that I hadn't previously participated in) was learning about the blogs and blogging
(having said that - I don't think I'll become a blogger fiend!)...

Tonight I have spent a VERY quiet (stormy) evening trying out some of the 23 Things I have been getting behind in...some of them I have encountered because I use them - things like Facebook (and enjoy participating in) and others that I THINK could be useful to me (Library thing) but most of which I think will be interesting to note but not so useful to me...del.iciou.us and Flickr (well I think that now anyway). I am most frustrated by the fact I have to sign in to use all these sites with a new account name. As I understand it, another 'Thing' may demo a site that allows you to log in and access all accounts with one login - that would be useful!

I don't think I assessed a wikipedia article yet - Thing# 7 I believe...I'm of 2 minds with wikipedia. I refer people to it all the time but often caution them that the information must be assessed in a very critical way. Some of the information can be, if not wrong, at the very least misleading to the user. Although, I have read the article on Sydney, Nova Scotia and it seems correct. They don't state where the information originates from though, so I'm left feeling as if the article lacks authority.

Here I sit - listening to a podcast while I type my next task for "23 Things". How exciting is that?!
I have not blogged of late - since it has been particularly busy at work...But I have been merrily working away at the tasks. Things 5-14 are done and while I may have trouble remembering exactly where/when/how to do certain tasks, eventually it comes back to me. I'll practice again tonight maybe.

Ha! I did it all by myself and it was so easy!
Just when I was thinking that I hadn't posted in awhile and what was the use of all this anyway...then I get sucked back in again! Well November has been quite busy so I haven't had much time to attend to blogging (and after the Chocolate Wars of '07 I think I became jaded - and chocolate-less!).
Anyway - video posted...I'm thinking if I did this blogging thing might be good after all...

Ok - so now to tooting my own horn.
With a wiki war and a t-shirt on the line, it's time to make it known...yes, Jackie and I have published a new book (those around us are tired of hearing about it - so it's time those in the wider web world heard the news too!). The title is "The terrible, horrible, smelly pirate" and is written by Carrie Muller and Jaqueline Halsey with illustrations by Eric Orchard .
Since it is not actually published yet (estimate is for Spring 2008) I have linked here to the blog.

Blog Envy

Ok - I have been browsing other people's blogs and I am getting blog envy - I must figure out to put a list up of all my 23 things I have completed. For thing #5 - I read some of the annoyed librarian - link from Ryan's site. I found it quite funny. I can't remember all of it now (short memory!). I'm also thinking I should start putting labels on my blog and maybe (gasp!) allow it to be seen by others (I have privacy settings set to not be public). I still don't trust all this internet 'stuff' though...I recall reading an article recently about a workshop or course teaching women who might be at risk (those leaving abusive relationships for instance) on how to be safe on the net (Facebook can be great if you have no stalkers but what if somehow you DID give out too much info inadvertently?).

Blogging is as bad as me trying to keep a journal - I only ever wrote in that when I was feeling particularly down or really upset about something...it just seems like so much trouble....but perhaps it could be useful for some...my real problem I think is that I have no strong opinions that I want immortalized in web history. As to whether or not blogging would be useful in a library setting - not sure about that. You could blog the trials and tribulations of programming/library woes (heavily edited of course, and always appropriate) but then, the ones that seem most interesting are the anonymous ones that 'say it like it is' . Ok - next I'm going to try to add something to this blog - but not today - I have other things to do...

Oh my ever-loving GOD!! I have been surfing now for too long (DW thinks I am surfing online singles sites) and am getting extremely tired, but to quote ( since everyone seems to be doing that in their sites) -

"I have seen the future, and it works." [M] - or more correctly - as it should be:

As I see it - it is one more way for people to talk/rant/share the daily comings and goings of their lives - and make it all public...I just don't think I have ( or maybe I worry that I don't have) that many ideas and rants that I feel compelled to commit to paper let alone a blog spot...and what if a really great quote or idea comes to you and you have no paper?? (gasp! that implies I have no hand held divice thingy to immediately put my thoughts down! The horror...)

Well - 2 days in and I'm panicking about all the new logon names and passwords I have to remember!
My mind is so full of "delicious" information that I'm starting to actually "Stumbleupon" some interesting things - Joono?
Ha! Thought someone out there might appreciate a little punny stuff...
With much insistence from Alison - I have finally begun the trek away from hotmail and moved over to gmail - (oooh they have cool stuff there! - calendars and everything) :)
I now have some RSS feeds set up to go to gmail account and am actually having quite a hard time meeting my "Roving" commitments (sorry Alison!) .
And that's all for today - since it's 5:00pm and I must be off to meet my editor... :)

A Luddite in the Library

Now there's a catchy title for a "learning technologies challenge"! I'm not completely opposed to embracing new technologies - but when you learn it took me 30 mins to try to figure out a new email name for google mail, you will understand my reticence (just give me the name I want for heaven's sake!). I still haven't figured out how to program my VCR to record anything other than snow - never mind the clock on the darn thing!
If I had all the time in the world to actually feel comfortable with every new "thing" that became available, I might be more receptive...although I do freely admit to becoming a facebook fan and of course, I use internet banking and email and happily surf the net for any new ailment that besets itself upon my aging body - but to become proficient in any of those requires more time and energy than I feel capable of at this time in my life...but time marches on and we must march too. A challenge has been issued and we must boldly go forth where technology takes us...onward blog!
